LIFE WRITING, ARTS-BASED PEDAGOGIES, LITERACIES FOR/AS WELLBEING
How do we put compassion at the heart of what we do in schools? |
Welcome. My name is Jen Watt and I am an Assistant Professor in the Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning Department at the University of Manitoba. I am particularly interested in exploring teacher education through life writing and other arts-based ways of teaching and researching. I want to know: how do teachers work through moments of crisis? How can teachers in all stages of their careers engage with vulnerability, discomfort, mindfulness, and compassion?
I am also interested in exploring how flourishing literacies both inside and outside of schools contribute to students', families', teachers', and communities' well-being and well-becoming. What are literacies AS well-being and well-becoming? What are literacies FOR wellbeing and well-becoming? How do we compassionately cultivate both? |
TEACHING AS A LIFE PROJECT
Always in ProcessI love teaching. Like Maxine Greene (1995), I believe that teaching is a "life project, a way of being in the world" that renders us "always in process, always exploring our texts, our raw materials, always seeking ways of reaching others and moving others to come alive, to think about their thinking, to create meanings, to transform their lived worlds" (p. 70).
It is my hope that this website invites you into my teaching project--into my always-in-process journey of teaching, learning, and re-searching. |
Find me. Get in touch. Let's get wondering together.
Please feel free to contact me with your teaching or research questions and ideas.
